2008: The year of the empty desk?

There will be more jobs available this year than applicants qualified to fill them, according to research by Deloitte, suggesting that the optimism of the British jobseeker in the previous news item is well justified. The survey of 2 million people employed by 58 of the world’s leading organisations found that demand for the right people is outstripping supply and that the global talent pool would shrink by almost 15% over the next 40 years. “Whilst this is great news for job seekers,” comments Suzannah Chapple, Chapple Managing Director, “it emphasises the need for HR directors and employers to become more creative and sophisticated in their search for talent”. For example, does your recruitment strategy attract Generation Y workers by using new technology? Does it accommodate outsourced functions? If not, why not? “By working in tandem with reputable career partners, talent management strategies will need to be employed more broadly and extend way beyond individuals in top leadership positions,” she says. Chapple has an extensive global database of clients and candidates, helping us place the right people in the right roles – quickly and effectively.
