HR managers ‘out of step’ with employee engagement

You would think that the HR function would have the fingers on the pulse when it came to employee engagement, particularly as it’s their responsibilty to retain key talent – or find replacements when things go pear shaped. However, a survey of 300 UK and Irish managers has revealed that HR’s perception of employee engagement in all sectors (retail, leisure, IT, media etc.) is at considerable odds with management from other function. Whilst HR reported a decline in employee engagement since the recession of -9 points, other managers reported a -34 point decline. Out of touch or in job protection mode? You decide!
