Race advisors and equality campaigners have called on the government to make ‘anonymous’ CV’s and job applications compulsory to overcome discrimination against women and people with African or Asian surnames, according to a recent report in the Guardian newspaper. According to the article, the government’s ethnic minority task force is due to report on the findings of research commissioned by the Department of Work and Pensions which found that the number of job applications white people had to make was 9, compared to 16 for those with ‘foreign’ sounding or ‘female’ names.
