Opportunities in PR and digital marketing are at their highest for 14 months, according to a leading recruiter, with the general jobs market definitely looking up. Reed employment is reporting that there was a significant rise in the number of job opportunities across all sectors in January and February – up 26% on February 2010. Of particular interest, however, was the PR and Marketing sector in which demand for new staff is a record 50% higher than it was when the Reed Job Index was launched in December 2009. Employers in leisure and tourism head the pack closely followed by those in creative and digital marketing, where the demand for talent is up 69%. However, there is one caveat to all this positivity. Working in the digital sector will not earn you quite what it did even two years ago. Salaries have been hit by the recession and employers are recorded as paying up to 2% less than they were in 2009 for the same jobs. Reed’s MD Martin Warnes says: ‘Employers right across the private sector are showing their confidence by recruiting new staff at a time when high competition for new jobs is still keeping a cap on salaries.’
